OUR PREFERRED SUGGESTION: We highly recommend renting a car in Porto to arrive to Lamego. Rental car options are very limited in the Douro Valley. Reach out to us and we can recommend car rental companies!
- Driving in Portugal can be very easy and straightforward.
- This will be the most cost-efficient option.
- Direct route to Lamego: Standard, well-maintained multi-lane toll highways (Portagens) with gentle curves.
- Scenic Route to Lamego: Can be moderate to challenging. These roads hug the river and mountain slopes. They are narrow, winding, and involve steep slopes with sheer drop-offs, requiring careful navigation.
Private Transfer - we have partnered with a local company in Portugal and can book private transfers from Porto to Lamego.
- Please note: This option tends to be very costly because of the distance and once you reach Lamego there is very little taxi or Uber availability.
Train from Porto to Peso da Régua
- For those not comfortable with renting cars you can take a train from Porto to the Peso da Régua (7 miles away from Lamego) and we can arrange your arrival to Lamego.
